Kids always surprise me! Today we ran our first mile run and boy was I in for a treat. Not only did all of our scholars try hard, push themselves, and have fun...but the support for each other was amazing! I had several kids who finished their mile, and then they headed back out to motivate other students. I would mention their names, but I fear I'll forget one and feel terrible. Let's just say it was a small group of boys and one young lady! Doing that small act of kindness not only brought a smile to someones face and made a great memory, but you were role models for others. I can't tell you how proud I was to be your teacher at that moment. AND all the cheering from the sideline. Wow!
I am very proud of the scholars in our room today. They all handled painting the background on their canvas well and the monster designs are great! Thank you very much to Emily R., Aliyah, and Lilly for helping me clean up after school! That was a definite random act of kindness! You girls ROCK!
Remember 5th graders: make good choices in friends. Sometimes those we choose to hang out with do not make good decisions and that can affect us! It's sometimes hard to do the right things if our friends aren't. So choose to play and hang out with people like you that make wise choices. If you are reading this wondering if I am talking about you...YES I most likely am! Choose kind and choose friends who choose kind. Not easy, always smart! We are up to 8 links on our kindness chain! Woohoo!
Our first math test was today and the kids showed what they know. We even had a few hundred percents! I was impressed. This morning involved a very thoughtful conversation about the Civil Rights Movement. All the kids were involved and eager to ask questions. Later in the week, we will read about Ruby Bridges and the desegregation of schools. So far so fun! Play dough, elephant toothpaste, Oobleck, Wonder, PE...Can't wait to get all of you commenting on the blog. One more week and we will be ready to go!
